Peace Silk

Peace Silk means silk rearing without killing the silkworms. This silk is also called Ahimsa Silk or non-violent silk. AHIMSA is a Sanskrit term for the principal of non-violence, which reflects the attitude of mankind towards animals and nature in many eastern religions and cultures.

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and respect towards all living creatures, the Indian farmers process the cocoons either the silk worm has completed its metamorphosis to a moth and hatched the perorated cocoon or - the usual way in the North-East regions of India like in Meghalaya - after the pupae is taken out of the cocoon.  Thereafter the fibers are reeled and processed.

Peace Silk is produced from all species: from tussah, mulberry, eri and muga cocoons.
